March 2012: Nominated in two categories for the Ohio Associated Press Awards for Best Graphic Designer and Best Illustration. (will update with results soon)

October 2010: Presented an InDesign workshop at Youngstown State University for high school press day.

February 2010: With the record snowfall here in Ohio, I decided to come up with an illustration about snow etiquette. It made the front page of The Vindicator and got some attention online as well. Read Charles Apple's blog to check it out.

May 2009: John Cruz was recently awarded first place in the Ohio Associated Press for best full page layout.

May 2009: In addition to the AP award, accolades "Honoring John Cruz for Outstanding Accomplishment," were given for exemplary performance in the Associated Press Society of Ohio's annual newspaper contest for coverage during 2008 on behalf of the members of the Senate of the 128th General Assembly of Ohio.
